Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a therapy based on the principle that reflexes found on the feet, hands and ears are connected to various parts of the body.

By applying pressure to reflexes and meridian points, an equilibrating effect can be achieved to either stabilize an imbalance or bring about a positive effect through relaxation, thereby promoting self-healing.

A natural, holistic therapy based on the principal that reflexes found on your feet, hands and ears are connected to every part of your body. These reflexes ‘tap into’ the same energy circuitry as acupuncture and when pressure is applied to them, using thumb and finger techniques, the associated body parts are nudged into improved functioning.

What are the Benefits?

Reflexology is of great benefit as a preventative therapy. By treating at regular intervals, your body can be maintained in a balanced state, resulting in continued good health.

Medical research has shown that reflexology stimulates the pituitary gland to release endorphins, which induce pain relief and muscle relaxation.

Muscle relaxation allows improved blood circulation and lymph drainage, providing your cells with ready access to nutrients and oxygen while delivering wastes to the lungs and kidneys for excretion.

Reflexology stimulates nerve function and enhances the immune system and your body’s response to imbalance and disease.

It reduces stress and tension, resulting in a state of calm and a sense of health and well-being.

Is Reflexology for everyone?

The beauty of Reflexology is that it is safe for just about anyone. Young, old and in between, can benefit. There are some contra-indications where Reflexology should not be considered, or should be used with extreme caution - among these are:

  • Infections of the feet and contagious illness
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis
  • High - risk pregnancy
  • Osteoporosis
  • Recent surgery

With any serious health condition – first consult your doctor.  Please note that Reflexology is a complement to standard medical care and should not be seen as a replacement for serious medical intervention.
